Aesthetic Services

Since 2008, Dermatology Associates has been providing residents of central New York with cosmetic dermatology services that utilize evidence-based medical treatments to improve skin’s appearance. We offer several exfoliation methods, each of which works differently to remove dried, dead skin cells and other impurities from your face and body. With dermaplaning, chemical peels, and microdermabrasion available at our Fayetteville, New York office, there’s never been a better time to find out which is right for you and your goals.

Dermaplaning

Also known as microplaning or blading, dermaplaning is compatible with most skin types, working particularly well for those with dull, dry, or sun-damaged skin. Oftentimes, patients seek dermaplaning to remove deep acne scars, uneven pockmarks, and peach fuzz.

During this procedure, one of our skilled care providers will use an exfoliating blade to skim away dead skin cells and hair from your face. Afterward, they will apply a soothing gel or ointment, as well as a protective sunscreen. Dermaplaning can cause temporary facial redness following your appointment, and in rare cases, infection and scarring.

Chemical Peels

This procedure involves applying a solution to the skin, which causes the top layer to safely peel away. The new skin revealed beneath is smoother, less wrinkled, and more radiant than the former layer. Chemical peels are often performed on the face, hands, or neck, and they can have one or more of the following helpful effects:

  • Fine line reduction, especially under the eyes and around the mouth
  • Treatment of wrinkles caused by age or sun damage
  • Lessening of mild acne scars
  • Treatment of certain acne types
  • Reduction in age spots, freckles, dark patches, and more

People with fair skin and light-colored hair often respond well to chemical peels. But the darker your skin tone, the more complications your complexion may experience following this procedure.

Microdermabrasion

This minimally invasive procedure typically uses a special tool to buff away the thick, outer layer of your skin. Alternatively, another version of this procedure uses a specially formulated spray and a vacuum tool to remove this layer. After either of these is performed, your dermatologist will then apply a moisturizer and sunscreen to your skin for immediate protection.

Whichever method you undergo, microdermabrasion can help reduce the following skin concerns:

  • Fine lines
  • Wrinkles
  • Hyperpigmentation
  • Enlarged pores and blackheads
  • Acne and acne scars
  • Uneven skin tone and texture

Microdermabrasion is considered to be a safe, effective procedure for most skin types. You may experience some minor tenderness, swelling, or redness following your appointment. However, these effects typically subside within a few hours, revealing even, glowing skin that lasts.

Post-Exfoliation Care

The new layer of skin that exfoliation reveals is sensitive, so it requires extra care and protection throughout the post-treatment period. After you’ve received an exfoliation service at Dermatology Associates, we recommend that you continue to regularly moisturize and apply sunscreen to the treatment area. It’s also strongly advised to avoid using products with astringents, retinol, and other exfoliating agents for a minimum of 24 hours after your treatment.
